Roya is feeling better today and is pretty much back to her normal self - she is bouncing instead of walking and talking our heads off. Phew! We decided to fly from Chiang Mai to Krabi (through Bangkok) instead of taking the train. We went to the airport in a pickup truck taxi at 6:45 this morning. These taxis are basically a pickup truck with bench seats installed in the flat bed and a roof on top. They are not the most comfortable ride in the world, but they get you where you want to go.
We flew Air Asia, which does not have assigned seating - they only have rush seating! We managed to find 4 seats in the same row, so that was okay. We had a 4-hour layover in Bangkok before our flight to Krabi, so we wandered the airport halls, looked at some shops, and had some lunch. The kids particularly enjoyed the moving sidewalks. They went up and down the sidewalks a few times and were using their imaginations about where they were. They would get on at one end, pretend they were on the train and lean on the handrail as if it was the window. They would wave to us from the "window" and say their goodbyes. Then they would cach the "train" coming back and we would greet them after their long train journey.
Yasmin and Roya are also learning how to check which gate the flight leaves from and where the departure lounges are, etc. They are getting to be quite well travelled!
We arrived in Krabi at 3 p.m. and our hotel had sent someone to pick us up, which was great. The hotel has a swimming pool and we have two adjoining rooms. Now we can put the kids to bed and have our own room for drinking tea, research, reading, etc. We went for a walk down the street and found a restaurant for supper, and the ever-present 7-Eleven store. There is lots to see and do in this area, so we are trying to plan it so we get to the places we want to see in the 8 days that we are here.
