Versailles

We were up early so that we could pick up our car. Dragging our luggage to the metro was a bit of a pain, but the car pickup went smoothly and before we knew it we were on our way to Versailles.

The palace of Versailles, home to King Louis XIV, King Louis XV, King Louis XVI, and Napoleon was according to our auto-guide the most Lavish palace in the world. The ceilings were painted, the walls were adorned with gold and silk, and the floors were tiled with marble.

The ceiling of one of the smaller rooms had over a hundred people painted on it and had taken three years to paint. I can’t imagine how long it took them to paint the ceiling of the long Hall of Mirrors.

The gardens were immense. We had nice weather, almost too sunny and bright with the white gravel pathways. We took a walk through part of the grounds, but couldn’t hope to cover it all.

By the time we finished walking around, the kids were tired and happy to go sit in the car for the drive to Dijon. We got a little lost getting on the highway, but eventually found our way.

The drive through the Bourgogne region was beautiful with the many yellow, mustard fields. We reached Dijon and found Nadim’s aunt’s house with no trouble. It was great to see Renee again. She hasn’t changed a bit.
