We packed up the bags again and headed to the Margao bus stand around noon. Funny how we don’t think of noon as lunchtime anymore! There are no air-conditioned buses, but the breeze from the open windows made it tolerable. This was a non-stop bus and got us to Panjim in less than an hour. I remember in the old days we had to take a ferry across the river and continue on to Panjim, but there is a bridge now so it’s a lot faster. In fact, this is the bridge that was used in the movie “The Bourne Supremacy”, when Marie gets shot and veers off the bridge into the river.
Panjim seems a little quieter, with less traffic than Margao. We went for lunch at the Fidalgo Hotel, where we used to go in the old days. It was neat to wander around the streets and remember a few landmarks.
Seema, one of the Baha’is here, mentioned we could stay at the Baha’i Centre if we like, but there is no air-conditioning there. So we decided to get a hotel room instead. It is so hot that we need ac for sure. That, plus a shower pretty much every time we come in from outside!
